Mickve Israel is an active Reform synagogue, and plays an important role within the Savannah community.  In addition to religious services and holiday observances, we host events pertaining to other cultures, history, books and music, just to name a few.

We participate in Savannah's annual Super Museum Sunday during which historic homes and museums open their doors to the public.  This free event, held in February, is a community favorite in which many members of the Coastal Museums Association participate.

Our sanctuary has hosted concerts for the Savannah Children's Choir and acted as a venue for several Savannah Music Festival concerts in addition to hosting private educational opportunities on historic organs.

For many years, Mickve Israel has been an active participant in the Historic Houses of Worship events.  Together we celebrate our blessings through a community-wide ecumenical Thanksgiving Service.  This interfaith service is held the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving.

Each year Rabbi Belzer teaches a twelve-hour Introduction to Judaism class, open to the entire community.  The day begins at 10 am and ends and 10 pm.  It is a complete interactive experience consisting of two meals, Sabbath service, Havdallah service, lecture, discussion and questions.  The most recent Intro class was held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 and the next class is scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2011.

Throughout our history, we have also participated in any number of life cycle events.

You do not need to be a member of Mickve Israel to use our facility.  Our sanctuary and/or social hall (the Mordecai Sheftall Memorial Hall) is available to rent based on availability.  Our Executive Director, Anne Maner, can provide you with specifics.
